It’s really hot this week in Las Vegas, but we have air conditioning and misters as far as the eye can see. The UK? Not so much. The temperature at London’s Heathrow Airport hit 104 degrees earlier this week, an all-time high. For a country with little air conditioning, it has a lot of people seeking to beat the heat. Enter the movie theater chain Showcase Cinemas who offered up a great deal for the most vulnerable… redheads. For two days earlier this week, the chain allowed redheads inside to catch a movie for free. They called the promo “SPF For Redheads” with the SPF standing for “Sun Protecting Flicks”. The theater group said “since redheads are often more vulnerable than most to the sun’s rays, we’re giving them shelter from the sun inside our fully air conditioned cinema screens…” No word if Ed Sheeran took advantage of the deal.
TAKE THIS JOB AND EAT IT
If you like the sweeter things in life, then you’ll love this gig from the website Candy Funhouse. The Canadian candy retailer is hiring a so-called “Chief Candy Officer” who will have the option of working from home. The gig? Eat some candy, slap some candy that you really like with the stamp of approval, and presto, you’re done. The gig pays $100,000 a year and you must be 5 or older to apply. Submit your application on their website by the end of August, and if you win, watch your blood sugar.
WE DON’T DESERVE DOGS
A hiker in the Tahoe National Forest at the Nevada/California border was in deep trouble when he fell off a 70-foot cliff. He was really banged up. Somehow he managed to get to some cell service with what he described as a broken hip and ribs, but searchers were unable to find the 53-year-old. Enter Saul, his trusty Border Collie, who sprang into action. He ran through the forest barking his brains out until searchers could find him. Two searchers spotted the dog barking, jumping, and spinning in circles, like a furry rescue beacon. The man was flown to a hospital for care. The dog is now trying to save little Jimmy from a well.
