Ah, the 2000s. The era of velour tracksuits, Juicy Couture bags, and flip phones. The time where we didn't care about our Myspace Top 8 drama (well... kinda did) or how many text messages we had left for the day (yeah, maybe a little of that too). While we still cringe at some of the fashion choices made during that decade, there are some trends we just can't get enough of. And we need to bring some of the best Y2K trends back immediately.

You may not even have been born yet during the late 90s to early 2000s, but you can’t deny that Y2K trends are still alive and well today. From bucket hats to platform sandals, these retro fashions are undeniably iconic. But what is it about these styles that make them so timelessly awesome?

One of the main reasons is because of the nostalgia factor. Millennials who grew up during this time period have fond memories of the music, fashion, and culture. The internet and social media has also allowed for the sharing and re-discovery of these trends, making them accessible to younger generations as well. The fashion industry has caught on to this nostalgia trend and has been churning out Y2K-inspired collections in recent years.

Y2K fashion trends were all about being bold, playful, and experimental. From butterfly clips to neon colors, there was no such thing as too much or too extra. These styles were an escape from the more subdued and minimalist fashions of the 90s. Today, many people are seeking out this same sense of escapism through fashion. Y2K trends offer a fun and nostalgic alternative to the more serious and subdued styles of today.

Another reason why Y2K trends are still relevant today is because they celebrated all body types. Low-rise jeans, cropped tops, and clingy fabrics were all part of the Y2K aesthetic. This clothing was designed to be worn by anyone, regardless of their size or shape. The rise of body positivity movements in recent years has made Y2K styles even more appealing to those looking for fashion that celebrates all bodies.

Y2K trends weren’t just about the clothing – the makeup was just as bold and experimental. Frosted eyeshadows, lip gloss, and glitter were all staples of Y2K makeup looks. Today, many people are seeking out ways to add some sparkle and playfulness to their makeup routines. Y2K makeup trends offer a fun and vibrant alternative to the muted and natural looks that have been popular in recent years.

While we may not be able to go back in time and relive the glory days of butterfly clips and lip gloss, we can at least add a little bit of 2000s flair to our current wardrobes. So, let's embrace the nostalgia and bring back these iconic Y2K trends immediately.

5) Low-Rise Jeans

Yes, we know they're controversial, but hear us out. Low-rise jeans were a staple in every girl's wardrobe in the 2000s. They're perfect for showing off your toned abs or that cute belly button piercing you got on senior skip day. Not to mention, they pair perfectly with crop tops and oversized t-shirts. So, let's bring back the low-rise jeans, but maybe leave the thong straps peeking out.

4) Chunky Highlights

Who could forget the iconic chunky blonde highlights on Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson? While 2021 has been all about subtle highlights and natural-looking hair color, we think it's time to bring back the bold and daring chunky highlights. Whether it's blonde or bright pink, go big or go home.

3) Platform Flip Flops

Yes, you read that right. Platform flip flops were a thing, and we're here for it. Not only did they give you a couple of extra inches, but they were also surprisingly comfortable. Plus, they're perfect for the beach or pool days when you don't want to wear sandals but still want to feel a little bit fancy.

2) Belly Chains

If you had a belly piercing in the 2000s, then you know all about belly chains. They were the perfect accessory to show off your midriff and add a little bit of bling to any outfit. While they may have been a little bit tacky, we think it's time to bring them back and add a little bit of sparkle to our summer looks.

1) Baggy Cargo Pants

We know skinny jeans are all the rage right now, but let's not forget about the comfy and functional baggy cargo pants. They're perfect for those lazy days where you just want to be comfortable but still look trendy. Plus, they have so many pockets, you could practically leave your purse at home.
