Netflix, the biggest streaming platform in the world, has recently announced that it's doing away with its $10 basic plan in the U.S.

This news has shocked a lot of people who have been subscribers for years. If you have it, you are grandfathered in and can keep it. But, new users have just two options to choose from now that they did away with the $10 plan. Option one is to pay $6.99 for an ad-supported Netflix plan or option two is to pay $15.49 for a plan with no ads. How many commercials would you watch if it was free?

The first thing to note is that the ad-supported plan is not "free." The plan costs $6.99 a month and includes ads in between shows. However, it's still significantly cheaper than the other plan. So, how many commercials can you expect to see? According to Netflix, there will be about three minutes of commercials for every episode of a show or movie. It's not a lot, but it's still a break from the ad-free experience that users have gotten used to. I think that is totally doable.

The good thing about the ads is that Netflix will personalize the ads you see based on your watch history and preferences. So it won't be like YouTube Kids where my 4-year-old is seeing commercials for Metamucil. This means that the ads you see will be more tailored to your interests, and you might actually find them useful.

Another thing to note is that some users might not see any ads at all. Netflix has stated that it plans to test different options for the ad-supported plan, including the possibility of not having ads for some users, the website states. This means that if you're lucky, you might get the best of both worlds. Would I be so lucky? A cheaper plan with no ads? Sign me up!

But is the ad-supported plan really worth it? How many ads would you watch if the plan was free? 10 - 15 minutes of ads? I guess it all depends on how much you value the ad-free experience. If you're someone who absolutely hates ads and can't stand the thought of seeing them, then it might be better to go for the more expensive plan.

They have a lot more people to impress now as well. According to Netflix, they have signed up 5.9 million NEW subscribers in the first quarter since they cracked down on password sharing. They are doing just fine.

Top 13 Netflix Shows Of All Time

Netflix changed the landscape of streaming. Since then, the entertainment industry has been changing, with more and more streaming services entering the market. But Netflix is the OG.

Netflix was one of the first streaming services to offer original programming, and it quickly became a major player in Hollywood. House of Cards kicked off a string of critically-acclaimed shows including Stranger Things, The Crown, Ozark, and Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul. The success of these shows only solidified Netflix’s position as an industry leader and paved the way for other streaming services like Hulu and Amazon Prime Video to jump into the mix.

These days, there are so many different streaming services available that it can be hard to keep up! In addition to Netflix originals, there are now hundreds of other shows from Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and networks like HBO Max that have become popular. As a result, competition has become fierce as streaming giants battle it out for exclusive rights to coveted content.

Despite all this competition from other streamers, Netflix still manages to break through with shows like Squid Game - which broke records. Shows like that are why Netflix is still at the center of the conversation when it comes to original programming.

It's clear that while there is plenty more competition now than there was when House Of Cards first aired back in 2013, Netflix is far from done when it comes to dominating original programming. It looks like Netflix will be staying firmly at the top for some time yet! For those looking for quality entertainment without having to subscribe to every single streaming service out there - you know that you'll always find something good on Netflix.
