There is nothing that fascinates a young kid (and the kid at heart) more than a Hot Wheels car. They are some of the first toys many of us collect and each is as special as the next. Whether you're playing with a few or collecting them all, the City Of Henderson wants to party with you!

The Henderson Hot Wheels 500 will be home to the fastest tracks anywhere! Kids from 4 to 94 will be able to bring their favorite cars down to race on multiple race tracks. Don't have a car, or want to test drive some other ones? Don't worry about it! There'll be plenty of cars provided!

It wouldn't be a car event without a car show! The most impressive cars will be judged for a chance to win a prize! So break out the turtle wax, buff out any scratches and come to impress.

If you're like the rest of us and are just there to race, there's plenty of opportunities to do that. There'll even be a special area just for the tots.

How do I take part in the Henderson Hot Wheels 500 event?

The event takes place on Saturday, August 26th from from 9am until 12:30pm at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center on 1575 Galleria Drive in Henderson.

If you want to race, the cost is just $10 and you must register before the event. If you're just there to watch, glances are absolutely free! Also if you're under 13 years old, you'll need your parent or guardian with you to take part.

What are better: Hot Wheels or Matchbox?

Are you ready to have your minds blown? While the two used to be competitors, Hot Wheels and Matchbox have both been owned by the same company - Mattel - since 1997. That's right. The fight has been over for a while.

Whatever it is you drive, bring a good attitude and have a fun time on August 26th!

Toy Hall Of Fame Finalists 2022

Voting is going on now for toys being inducted into the Toy Hall Of Fame in Rochester NY. The class of 2022 finalists are bingo, Breyer Horses, Catan, Lite-Brite, Nerf Toys, Masters of the Universe, piñata, Phase 10, Pound Puppies, Rack-O, Spirograph, and the top.

The public is encouraged to vote online through September 21st. You can cast your vote here. Inductees will be announced on November 10th.

The National Toy Hall of Fame opened at The Strong in 1998. So far, 77 toys have been inducted. Last year the inductees were Sand, American Girl Doll, and Risk.

There are toys of all shapes and sizes, games, stick, and sand. You are welcome to nominate your favorite toy here.

This is what the Hall of Fame website said about the inductees last year.

"About Sand: Sand may be the most universal and oldest toy in the world. Educator Maria Montessori has argued that sand “is only one substance that the modern child is allowed to handle quite freely.” Children recognize sand as a creative material suitable for pouring, scooping, sieving, raking, and measuring. Wet sand is even better, ready for kids to construct, shape, and sculpt. Sand provides unique opportunities for tactical, physical, cooperative, creative, and independent free play."

"About American Girl Dolls: Created in 1986 by educator Pleasant Rowland, the 18-inch American Girl dolls—and their accompanying books—explore America’s social and cultural history. Each historical doll comes with a unique narrative that fits her era, such as Molly McIntire, who is waiting for her father to return home from World War II. American Girl released the Truly Me 18-inch contemporary doll line in 1995 (originally under the name American Girl Today) to help girls express their individuality and build confidence."

"About Risk: Based on the French game Le Conquete du Monde, Risk translates the hobby of wargaming with miniature figures into a mass-produced war and strategy board game. First published in the United States in 1959, Risk challenges players to control armies and conquer the world. The game’s innovative mechanics ignited renewed interest in strategy games in the 1970s and continues to influence the board game industry."

A shocking thing I noticed about the list is that it took 10 years for the ball to get inducted.

What toys do you think should be in the Toy Hall of Fame that aren't in it yet? I would love to see the puffalump.  Though I don't think it ever made a comeback!
