I'm looking forward to the show this year after not really getting into it in years past. The reason I am looking forward to it this year is that I actually watch six of the eight shows nominated for Outstanding Drama Series. They are some of my favorite shows of all time too.
Since the year 2000, the winner of Outstanding Drama Series has been serial dramas.
- The West Wing (2000–2003)
- The Sopranos (2004, 2007)
- Lost (2005)
- 24 (2006)
- Mad Men (2008–2011)
- Homeland (2012)
- Breaking Bad (2013–2014)
- Game of Thrones (2015–2016, 2018, 2019)
- The Handmaid's Tale (2017)
- Succession (2020)
- The Crown (2021)
Succession, on HBO, is a "dramedy" (drama-comedy) about a feuding media family/dynasty. They have the most nominations this year with 25 nominations including breaking the acting nomination record with 14 nods. That is the reason I started watching Succession because the cast beat out Yellowstone last year and they are my favorite cast. I most definitely had to check it out and I fell in love! Deservingly so the most nominated show.
Netflix’s global megahit Squid Games made history as the first non-English language nominee to receive a series nod (for best drama series).
Surprisingly, neither Sadie Sink who plays Max or Millie Bobby Brown who plays Eleven were nominated for their amazing rolls on Stranger Things.
